SEPTEMBER 2009 A World Premiere of and in Honor of Hispanic Heritage Month! MISS LEBRON Written by René Solivan & Directed by Jesus Reyes Opens Fri, Sept 4 – Sat, Sept, 26 (A BOFLTE New Works Festival Finalist) Based on actual events, Miss Lebron examines the controversial life of Puerto Rican Nationalist, Lolita Lebron. Her life offers a scolding look at the cherished assumptions of the relationship between the United States and Puerto Rico. Miss Lebron digs underneath the façade of this tropical paradise and finds a past filled with oppression and a society whose culture and heritage have been suppressed to justify imperialism. With simmering rage, Miss Lebron struggles for years to attain Puerto Rico’s independence from the United States. |
