About the Event
SIN BARRERAS is a free online weekly playwriting forum facilitated by Breath of Fire’s Margo Rofé and Yolanda Mendiveles, in which writers of all levels are inspired and supported in the exploration and development of their writing. The forum provides an inclusive, safe, and positive space designed to help writers in this process. Utilizing prompts, weekly readings, and feedback, writers are encouraged to find their voice and develop their plays. *Feb 17th thru June 30th, 2022.
Requirements: In order to maximize the benefits of the workshop, everyone is encouraged to participate. Videos should be turned on at check-ins.
Yolanda Mendiveles is a playwright and a Breath of Fire Latina Theater Ensemble Board Member. Yolanda's 15-minute musical, “Is It Ahead Or Behind?”, was performed at the Colony Theatre in 2008, and her one-acts “California Dreamin' ”, and “Velorio” were performed at Casa 0101 Theater in 2015. Yolanda also edited 3 short films for Chicanas, Cholas, Y Chisme which were screened at Casa 0101 Theater. In 2018 Breath of Fire produced a staged reading of Mendiveles' “Blanca Nieves’ Christmas Play” was performed at the Wayward Artist Theatre, with a write up in the LA TIMES.
Margo Rofé is a Breath of Fire Latina Theater Ensemble Member, and Board Chair, an attorney, and a playwright. She is the author of “Caplata”, produced by Breath of Fire as part of the Covid Monologues Series, “The Dreamer”, performed as part of Breath of Fire’s Staged Stories, “Venn Diagram”, which has received table reads at both Breath of Fire and the Robey Theater, and “Can’t Hold Water”, currently in production at the University of Nebraska Omaha as part of its BIPOC Festival, among other plays. Margo also served as a committee member on the 43rd NAACP Image Awards’ Literary Sub-Committee in the category of Poetry Literature.
