About the Event

A new musically driven, theatrical re-imagining of untold stories of the Mexican Repatriation of the Great Depression, where over one million Mexicans and Mexican Americans were illegally and unconstitutionally deported, or repatriated to Mexico. the Repatriation unfolds through the eyes of four women – Paula, an immigrant from Jalisco; her American-born daughter, eight-year-old Celia; Paula’s great-granddaughter Elisa, a Mexican-American woman searching for the truth about herself and her family; and La Corridista, a shape-shifting musician who immortalizes the immigrant experience through music.

This play has been developed through a partnership with the University of Massachusetts at Amherst Department of Theater & Breath of Fire Latina Theater Ensemble and will be produced in the spring as part of the University's 2021-22 season and directed by Sara Guerrero.
